Find your dream guy at a singles party?

You're single and so are your girlfriends? Why not go to a singles party together? You get a fun girls' night out and maybe your dream guy shows up too? Nothing easier! Plenty of bars, and coffee shops too, host singles mixers like this. Some time ago I took one of these offers myself. My friend and I have both been single for a long time – too long. I read about a singles party nearby and decided for both of us that we'd go.

singles party

My friend wasn't as thrilled as I was at first, but in the end she let me talk her into it. Since the venue is a half-hour drive away – and we live in the middle of nowhere, where there's no public transportation in the evening – we decided by rock-paper-scissors that I'd drive. Full of excitement and big plans, we set off. But the moment we walked into the bar, our enthusiasm vanished. Maybe I should have looked at the poster a little more closely, then I'd have noticed that it was a singles party for 50+. My friend stared at me in horror for a moment before sitting down at the bar and knocking back two shots right away. I ordered a drink too – a Coke for the designated driver. While my friend got drunker and drunker and danced wilder and wilder, I sat at the bar with my Coke, chatting on and off with a nice man, but just one old guy. It was pleasant enough, I'll recommend it to my mother, but for my friend and me, this singles party really had nothing to offer.

DIY Singles Party

Since the singles party didn't work out elsewhere, we simply decided to organize our own. Every single friend is invited and required to bring along one of her ex-boyfriends. The party itself wasn't crowned with the success we'd hoped for. I talked to Jessica's ex, but in the back of my mind I heard Jessica's voice telling me what a jerk he is. The same thing happened with Megan's ex. The others had the same experience. That's the problem with exes: the girlfriends know why it didn't work out.

Singles Party or Old-Fashioned Dating?

I've given up on singles parties again. I'll just sit down in a bar with my girlfriends and have fun, and if I like someone, I'll buy him a drink. That saves time and is a lot easier on the nerves. Life as a single is great, you just have to remember that.
